You can blame the creation of this song on two people: Dallas Wayne and Peter Cooper. I was talking to each of them about songwriting and wanting to learn the craft. They both recommended the Tom T. Hall Songwriting Book, what I call “Tom T Hall’s Guide to How to Get Rich and Famous in the Music Business as a Songwriter and No Longer Have to Work for a Bunch of Dickheads”.

The first thing he said to do was to write a book that you could sell to ignorant saps who were looking for an easy way to get rich and famous in the music business.

Actually what I paid $25 to learn was to quit overthinking every little thing and to just write. Write from the heart. Write from the brain. Write from the gut. Write about things you imagine. Write about things you experience. Write about what you know. Just write.

So I wrote some songs and this was the very first. I wrote it all by myself beginning to end. It’s an honest song that just about any guy over the age of 50 can relate to. It's a love song, but it doesn’t mention a Dirt Road, a Pick-up truck, Drinking beer with some big tittied, steel-bellied, homewrecker wearing cutoff jeans. It’s a song about the human condition, the reality of life, and what happens once we get old and fat. It’s about real shit. I’m kind of proud of that.

I haven't gotten rich yet, and I'm still working for a bunch of dickheads, but this song might just be my ticket to the big time!
